The little girl
"No! don't leave me! Father, don't let go of my small hand!"
Each small foot fastly steps onto the ground, one by one. The kid was trying her best to grab her father's hand yet her small steps failed her to do so.
"Arghhhh!" a voice of a woman tragically.
The little pair of eyes looked behind her. She saw a woman she knew as her mother throwing a tantrum. Tore everything she can find apart. Throwing everything around her toward the father.
A pearl of tears slowly falls from those little eyes. She was scared. Her whole body was cold and shivering. The warmth she used to feel vanished in a blink of an eye.
Suddenly a big warm hand approaches her back. Woke her up from her bizarre daydream.
"Are you okay dear?" A woman wearing a kebaya asked her, worriedly.
"I...I am fine" Quickly wiped her tears from her eyes and smile widely, as cheerful as she can be.
The woman pats slowly on her shoulder and left her to continue her supervision.
The little girl always gets home late. To her, an empty school is way better for her. She hated to see her mother's haggard sad face. It makes her feel like she is being like that because of her. Her mother was not how she used to be anymore. She got angry easily and always talk with a high loud pitch which makes her feel like her mother was always angry with her.
Her father was not home anymore. He stayed elsewhere. At a place that was impossible to go by foot. Her calm father who always pampered her with love was not there anymore. No one will hug her when she was scared, there was no one to wipe her tears when she was sad, and there was no one who will calm her down when she was anxious. Now, she was living independently as a little young kid.
To attract her mother's attention, she rebelled at her best by not following anyone's instructions. Which makes her mother stressed out and pops out some loratadine to sleep.
At school, there was no one with who she really feel connected. No real friends that she really can trust. She was bullied repeatedly mentally. She acted strongly to deny her vulnerable self. Not until one day that she met a person who was willing to accept her as she is. The chipped worn-out self that she believes everyone will hate. For this person, she was willing to get isolated from others in her class. She was one of the bully victims yet the little girl finds her as a magnificent person who safe her from the darkness. Even though for once they were apart because of dumb behavior and communication, their friendship and trust were way too strong towards each other. To her, she was not only a friend but also a family.
However, all her tragic experiences make the little went numb, and it is hard to truly trust others. For years she was like that until she was mature enough that all she did to survive was deny her own feelings and emotions.
As they grow older they were apart by distance. Now she was alone again. She concealed her scars with a smile on her face. She hides her emotion with her static cold expression. Constantly, she told herself "It's okay, I am gonna be fine". Yet her bottled emotions slowly ate her up inside.
Years went by and her mother now was able to move on her the feeling of betrayal and her divorce. She was fine now, yet the little girl still felt disconnected from her mother.
Her father was remarried and looked happy once again. Still, his past mistakes kept haunting him which made him live with guilty feelings and become a very sensitive person.
One day, the little girl found her numbness was abnormal. She was not able to cry as she felt sad and laughed with her heartfelt as she felt happy. To her, all her emotion was just an act to the crowd.
The trauma she felt might don't leave physical scars on her, but her beaten-up self broke her emotion. An emotion that makes a human, human. Is it too late to fix it or can she learn to accept her own emotion as she used to deny them? Will she be able to become a real strong person then?
No one knows. May time cure her heart.
Whatever it is, family issues will break a little child's heart as to the family is their most precious thing. Thus, every parent should care about their acts especially when the child is in the house. To them, a family is a group of people they trust the most. A home with a warm snuggly blanket and a bowl of hot soup.
